Pet Urgent Care at Kings Trail Animal Hospital

Need to be seen today? Call us or come in during business hours. We will work your pet into the schedule as quickly as we can.

When your pet is suddenly unwell or experiences an accident, waiting days for an appointment is not an option. Here at Kings Trail Animal Hospital, we provide urgent care for dogs and cats in Jacksonville, FL, with same day appointments available and walk-ins welcome during our regular hours. If you have a sick pet and you are not sure whether it can wait, give us a call. We would rather take a look than have you worry about it overnight.

Walk In or Call

Pet care works best when it happens early, so we have built flexibility into our day. You can book a same day appointment over the phone, or walk in and we will get your pet evaluated as soon as our doctors are free. Our facility is relaxed and family oriented by design, which matters more than people expect when a pet is already stressed or in discomfort.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm. We also offer extended Saturday hours periodically, so it is worth calling to check if you need a weekend visit.

When Your Pet Needs to Be Seen Today

These are the concerns we see most often in urgent visits. If your pet is showing any of them, it is worth a same day visit rather than a wait and see approach:

Vomiting and Diarrhea

  • Repeated vomiting, diarrhea lasting more than a day, or either one paired with lethargy.
  • Any vomiting or diarrhea in a puppy or kitten, since dehydration sets in quickly at that age.

Not Eating or Unusually Tired

  • Skipping meals for more than a day, or a sudden drop in energy and interest in normal activity.
  • Hiding, restlessness, or any behavior change that is out of character.

Limping or Sudden Pain

  • Favoring a leg, difficulty getting up, or yelping when touched or picked up.
  • Stiffness that appears suddenly rather than gradually.

Ears, Eyes, and Skin

  • Head shaking, scratching at ears, odor, or discharge, which often point to an ear infection.
  • Squinting, redness, or eye discharge, which should always be checked promptly.
  • Hot spots, rashes, or itching severe enough to break the skin.

Minor Wounds and Urinary Trouble

  • Cuts, bites, torn nails, and other injuries that need cleaning or closing.
  • Straining to urinate, frequent trips with little result, or accidents in a previously house trained pet.

What Happens During an Urgent Visit

Every visit starts with a nose to tail examination, followed by a conversation about what you have been seeing at home. Depending on what we find, we may recommend diagnostic testing to get a clearer answer. We will explain what we are recommending and why before anything moves forward, so you are never surprised by the plan or the cost. Call us or book an appointment, and if you have questions before you come in, our FAQs may help.

Diagnostics and Treatment Under One Roof

Having our diagnostics on site means faster answers during an urgent visit. We offer pet X-rays and in house laboratory testing, with the ability to send samples out when a specialist panel is needed. If your pet’s situation calls for it, our surgical services are well equipped for emergency procedures, soft tissue surgery, and cryotherapy for small skin masses. We also handle dental concerns such as a broken or painful tooth, using digital dental X-ray to find problems below the gum line.

When to Go to an Emergency Hospital

We want to be clear about our limits. Kings Trail Animal Hospital is not a 24 hour emergency facility. If your pet is having trouble breathing, has collapsed, is bleeding heavily, has been hit by a car, is having a seizure, or has swallowed something toxic, go directly to a 24 hour emergency veterinary hospital rather than waiting for us to open. For everything in between, urgent but not life threatening, we are here during business hours.

Paying for Unexpected Care

Unplanned vet visits are rarely convenient. We accept cash, debit, all major credit cards, and CareCredit, which offers extended payment plans so you can move forward with treatment and pay over time. If your pet is a regular here, our Snout Wellness Plans spread routine care across monthly payments and include a discount on covered services.

A Family Oriented Clinic Jacksonville Pets Know

Kings Trail Animal Hospital is a family oriented practice treating dogs and cats throughout Jacksonville. Our facility is built to keep pets calm during their visit, which makes a real difference when they are already feeling unwell. Our veterinary team brings experience across soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and diagnostic imaging, so urgent cases can usually be worked up and treated without a referral elsewhere.

Urgent Care Questions From Pet Owners, Answered

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Both work. We accept walk ins during business hours and we also hold same day appointments. Calling ahead helps us prepare for your pet, but if you cannot call first, come in and we will get you taken care of.

How do I know if this is urgent or if it can wait?

If you are asking the question, call us. Vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, limping, ear or eye problems, and urinary trouble are all worth a same day look. Our team can help you decide over the phone whether your pet needs to come in now.

Are you open after hours or on Sundays?

Unfortunately, we are open Monday through Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday mornings, with only occasional extended Saturday hours. For after hours emergencies, we recommend going to a 24 hour emergency veterinary hospital.

What if my pet needs surgery or further treatment?

Most urgent cases can be handled here. Our surgical and diagnostic services cover emergency procedures, soft tissue surgery, X-rays, and in house lab work, so your pet can usually be treated without a referral.
